Real Estate Expert. Founder. Entrepreneur.
Located in Voorhees, New Jersey, Mike Khatiwala is an expert in the hospitality and commercial real estate industries. He is the Founder of Delaware Hotel Group, established in 2001, as well as a Managing Partner at Overall. He obtained a Bachelor’s in Accounting from Drexel University and, combined with two decades of hands-on experience, possesses a lifetime’s worth of industry knowledge and expertise.
Mike’s family purchased their first hotel, the Journeys’ End Motel in West Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1982. Over the course of the following decade, his family created a thriving business, acquiring several other smaller, motel properties. In 1997, Mike Khatiwala’s father retired and the family liquidated their hospitality assets. However, after spending much of his adolescence involved in the hospitality industry, Mike soon realized he was destined to return to the hotel business and formed Delaware Hotel Group.
In 2001, Mike purchased the Howard Johnson Express Inn, making it his—and the Delaware Hotel Group’s—first property. Three years later, he expanded and acquired the Best Western Westgate Inn in York, Pennsylvania. Over the next few years, Mike quickly began purchasing hotels and adding them to his portfolio. In 2006, he even won the Hotel of the Year Award on behalf of one of his properties, Days Inn Gettysburg. In 2007, he accomplished his dream and purchased the Hampton Inn in his hometown of Cherry Hill/Voorhees.
Nearly two decades after founding the company, Delaware Hotel Group owns and operates eight properties spanning New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. They are recognized and lauded for their incredible organization, customer service, and systematic approach to hospitality management. Specializing in property management, renovations and purchasing, acquisitions and development, and sales and marketing, Delaware Hotel Group is well-known and respected within their industry and region.
Outside of work, Mike Khatiwala is passionate about giving back to those around him—including people in and out of his personal and professional network. Many people in his life would not hesitate to describe him as a giving and helpful person that does his best to help others succeed. He is involved with a variety of nonprofit organizations such as Autism Speaks, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Indian Temple Association, Toys for Tots, and NPR, among others. In his free time, he can be found fishing, as well as playing or watching his favorite sport, basketball.
